The Fosters tells the complicated story of two mothers and their family made up of both adopted and biological children; this family has two moms, both biological and stepchildren, and family members from different races! Lena (Sherri Saum), who works as a school principal, and Stef (Teri Polo), a police officer, are a couple. Together, they are raising Stef's son Brandon (David Lambert) from a previous marriage along with the twin sisters they adopted, Mariana (Cierra Ramirez) and Jesus (Jake T. Austin). Lena encounters troubled teen Callie (Maia Mitchell), who has spent her life in various foster homes, and the couple decides to add Callie to their family.
