The Channel Four Daily

1989Ended2 Seasons86 EpisodesNews

The Channel Four Daily was a breakfast television news magazine produced by Independent Television News, in collaboration with other independent production companies for Channel 4. The program was the first breakfast show for Channel 4, broadcasting between 06:00 and 09:25 each weekday morning. The first edition aired on April 3, 1989, with the last edition broadcast on September 25, 1992. Conceived as a television newspaper, the output was heavily focused on news and current affairs. Additionally, several bite-sized feature segments lasting between 5 and 10 minutes were interspersed around the news output and aired multiple times each day. These included a business program, Business Daily - which had been on air as a lunchtime program since October 1987 - sports discussions, lifestyle segments, arts and entertainment, Countdown Masters - an abbreviated version of Countdown - and a cartoon segment called Comic Book. The Channel Four Daily failed to attract enough viewers, and the last broadcast was shown on Friday, September 25, 1992. It was replaced by the relatively more popular program, The Big Breakfast, starting Monday, September 28, 1992.
