Sense and Sensibility
Sense and Sensibility is a 2008 British television drama based on Jane Austen's 1811 novel of the same name. The screenplay was penned by Andrew Davies, who stated that the goal of the series was to make viewers forget Ang Lee's 1995 film adaptation. As a result, this series was more overtly sexual than previous Austen adaptations, with Davies including scenes of seduction and a duel that are suggested in Austen's novel but missing from the feature film. It tells the story of two sisters striving to find happiness in the rigidly structured society of 18th century England. Elinor, disciplined, restrained, and acutely aware of the manners of the time, embodies sense. Outspoken, impulsive, and emotional Marianne represents sensibility.
