In a world where both humans and monsters coexist, those who hunt the monsters are known as Hunters. However, in a small corner of the Hunter's realm, there are individuals called Riders who bond with and live alongside monsters. With their Kizuna Ishi (Bonding Stones) that enable them to unlock the hidden powers within monsters, Riders lead a secretive life with their Otomon, the monsters they have formed a connection with. Ryuto, a young boy from the Rider village of Hakum, dreams of becoming the world's greatest Rider. Having just turned 12, he embarks on a quest to find his own Otomon before the ceremony where he will receive his Kizuna Ishi. Accompanied by his kind-hearted childhood friend Cheval, his inquisitive friend Lilia, and his partner Naville, he ventures deep into the forest, where he has a miraculous encounter with a Rathalos.
