Ready Steady Go! was one of the UK's pioneering rock/pop music television programs and a precursor to MTV-style programming. Conceived by Elkan Allan, head of Rediffusion TV, the show was produced with the help of record producer and talent manager Vicki Wickham, who became the show's producer, and Michael Lindsay-Hogg, who was appointed director in 1965. It aired from August 1963 until December 1966, produced by Associated-Rediffusion, the weekday ITV contractor for London, known as Rediffusion-London after 1964. The live show eventually became a national network program. The show achieved its highest ratings on March 20, 1964, when it featured an interview with the Beatles, who performed their hits "It Won't Be Long," "You Can't Do That," and "Can't Buy Me Love"—the latter being a hit at the time. RSG! USA! was a Dick Clark production in 1964, but a trademark infringement led to its cancellation after six episodes. The final episode aired on December 23, 1966.
