Power Rangers is the collective name for a science fiction-adventure series and film franchise that has been airing in the U.S. since 1993. Following the show's popularity, films such as Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie in 1995 and Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie in 1997 were produced. It is an American adaptation of the Japanese series Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger, which aired in Japan during the 1992-1993 season. The show was initially planned to be released in the U.S. under the name Zyu (Pronounced: Jū) Rangers, but was changed to Power Rangers due to its similarity to the derogatory term "Jew." The series follows the adventures of young heroes who, with the help of good aliens, save the world from evil aliens. The young heroes can control giant robots called "zords" to defeat the villains. The robot scenes are generally taken from the Japanese version and re-dubbed in English, while other scenes are re-shot by Americans. Despite frequent changes in characters and actors over the years, the show has maintained its popularity, originally aimed at children but later appealing to teenagers as well, thanks to its adoption by the youth of the time.
