Motormouth was a Saturday morning children's television series produced by Television South that aired across the ITV network for four seasons, running from September 3, 1988, to April 4, 1992. Each season typically ran from the autumn of one year to the spring of the next, which was common among many 'main' Saturday morning shows. The program was launched after the decision to cancel No. 73, which had occupied the same slot until early 1988. No. 73 had been revamped during its final season as 7T3, featuring a partially exterior set. However, the new 7T3 setup was costly and challenging to produce, leading to the decision to switch to a fully studio-based format. The new show was produced in the same studio complex as its predecessor, and many of the production team transitioned to the new show. While No. 73 included a continuous narrative storyline, it was decided that Motormouth would adopt a straightforward magazine presentation format. The studio set for the first season featured several giant inflatable elements, including a massive motorized mouth, which inspired the show's name. In the second season, sometimes referred to as Motormouth II or Motormouth 2, changes were made, including the introduction of new graphics and set elements based on cogs and sprockets. The use of the giant mouth diminished following this change.
