Maddie Hayes (Cybil Shepard), a wealthy former model, wakes up one morning to find that her business manager has stolen all her money. However, she still has some non-liquid assets. One of these is a collection of failing companies that provide tax write-offs, and the other is a detective agency run by David Addison (Bruce Willis). Maddie goes to the office to announce she will shut it down, but David convinces her to keep it running by saying the agency can be profitable. Thus, Maddie becomes David's new boss, and together they embark on one adventure after another. Although their opposing personalities often clash, a strong attraction develops between them over time. But the biggest question remains… Will they end up together or not?
