Two very different families live in the village of Santa Lucía, caught in a whirlwind of passion, pain, and revenge. The rival families are the Mendozas and the Alcocers. Severiano Mendoza and Candela Santana are a wealthy and powerful couple residing at the ranch "Las Ánimas" with their young son, Cristóbal. Roberta and Raymundo Alcocer have a daughter named Alonza as well; however, they do not enjoy the same luxuries as the Mendoza family, which breeds frustration and resentment in Roberta, as nothing seems to be enough to fill the inferiority complex that shadows her.
