As time goes on, that line darkens until it turns black, signaling the person's death. Kita Michiru has a unique ability—she possesses 'Shinigami eyes,' which allow her to see these rings. When Michiru discovers that two boys in her class, Akatsuki Chika and Tachibana Shito, not only have rings but that they are jet black, they reveal to her that they were supposed to die in a tragic accident six months ago. With help from the Zombie Loan office, they were given a second chance at life, provided they can pay off their debt by doing the work of Shinigami and eliminating malicious zombies. They ask Michiru to help them in their quest, leading to a dramatic change in her everyday life.
