The 78th NHK Asadora is Hitomi. The series is set in the historic shitamachi area of Tokyo, and in these latest episodes, 20-year-old heroine Hitomi becomes the catalyst for her divorced mother, who has long been estranged from her own father, to reconcile and rekindle a sense of family unity. This is no easy task, given the trivial issues and challenges of modern life that each character faces, and the drama unfolds with a light comedic touch. Hitomi's upbringing is a recurring theme. Ironically, the family reconciliation is made possible through the death of Hitomi's grandmother. Hitomi seizes the chance to travel to her funeral from Sapporo. Once there, she embarks on her dream of becoming a dancer, all while interfering with and disrupting her grandfather's life.
