9.0TMDBHunter was an Australian espionage adventure television series that aired on the Nine Network from July 5, 1967, to 1969. Created by Ian Jones and produced by Crawford Productions. The title character, a charming spy, was portrayed by Tony Ward. However, he was quickly eclipsed by the show's main antagonist, Kragg, played by Gerard Kennedy, who became the breakout character of the series. Kennedy won a TV Week Logie Award for Best New Talent for his performance. Scripts were penned by Ian Jones and Terry Stapleton. The series gained immense popularity, ranking among the top ten most popular programs in Australia for 1967, and consisted of 65 one-hour episodes; it also achieved a limited number of international sales. It was filmed in black and white, with interior scenes shot on videotape in the GTV-9 Richmond studio and outdoor scenes filmed on location using 16 mm film. Compared to other Australian drama series of the time, it featured an above-average amount of location-shot action footage. The show included a sophisticated jazz score by Frank Smith. The Melbourne-based production filmed some episodes in Sydney and in the Snowy Mountains of New South Wales, as well as on the Gold Coast in Queensland, in South Australia, and in Singapore.
