After breaking off her engagement on her wedding day and heading straight to a brothel, a young model becomes the city's most famous harlot, known as "Hilda Hurricane", in 1950s Brazil. She might have been fine if it weren't for Malthus, a young novice believed to be a saint, whom she falls in love with. However, the boy is kept under the strict, severe doctrine of Father Nelson, a conservative priest intolerant of even the smallest sin. Things start to get complicated when Roberto, Malthus' old friend and a communist reporter (the actual author of the story), attempts to interview Hilda and reveal the real reasons behind her radical change of heart. Meanwhile, the middle classes are terrified by the "leftist threat" in Brazilian politics.
