The mini-series titled Hatfields & McCoys focuses on the feud between the Hatfield family from West Virginia and the McCoy family from Kentucky. The ongoing tension and blood feud between these two sides, known as the most notorious enemy families in the country since the 1800s, resulted in many deaths on both sides, escalating to the brink of a civil war between West Virginia and Kentucky. Devil Anse Hatfield and Randall McCoy were actually friends during the American Civil War, but their relationship soured when they returned home after the war. The series, written by Ted Mann (Deadwood) and Ron Parker (Broken Trail), tells this struggle as the main story while also showcasing various developments such as the love affair between Hatfield's son and McCoy's daughter, the conflict between state leaders, the experiences of McCoy's sons, arson incidents, and the murders that occurred.
