The show revolves around a fictional high school in Cologne and deals with themes of young love, a marriage crisis, a mysterious disappearance, schemes and competition, coming out, drug abuse, career opportunities, and forbidden feelings. Hand aufs Herz also introduces something entirely new to the soap opera genre by incorporating music and dance as central elements.
