Globe Trekker is an adventure tourism television series produced by Pilot Productions. Inspired by the Lonely Planet travel books, the British series began airing in 1994 and is broadcast in over 40 countries across six continents. Each episode features a host, referred to as a traveller, who travels with a camera crew to a country—often a relatively exotic locale—and experiences the sights, sounds, and culture that the location has to offer. Special episodes provide in-depth guides on cities, beaches, diving, shopping, history, festivals, and food. The show often goes beyond popular tourist destinations to give viewers a more authentic glimpse into local culture. Presenters typically engage in various aspects of regional life, such as attending a traditional wedding or visiting a mining community. They speak directly to the viewer, acting as tourists-turned-tour guides, while also being filmed interacting with locals and discovering intriguing locations in unscripted sequences. Globe Trekker sometimes includes brief interviews with backpackers who share tips on independent travel in that particular country.
