Set in the suburb of Oak Park, Illinois, the series follows couples bound by friendship and family as they navigate the many phases of life and love in all their glorious complications. At the start of the series, Sheri and Dean are the relationship "veterans," having been together for 15 years and married for the last four. Malena (Sheri's best friend) and Mel are newlyweds, moving next door to Sheri and Dean. Bobbi and Reggie (Mel's younger brother) are dating, two "commitment-phobes" who are more devoted to each other than either would readily admit.
