Flikken
Flikken was a popular Flemish-Belgian TV series centered around a police department in Ghent. The show premiered in 1999 and concluded recently on April 19, 2009. In the series, a team of six police officers tackled various crimes, from petty offenses to organized crime. The series consistently aimed to portray police work in a realistic manner, though a touch of personal drama was never far behind. Among all the actors who appeared throughout the ten seasons, only Mark Tijsmans and Ludo Hellinx were present for the entire run. Flikken was produced by VRT and aired on the Belgian public channel Eén and TROS in the Netherlands. The show enjoys immense popularity in both Belgium and the Netherlands, achieving impressive ratings of up to 1.8 million viewers during its final season. Every year, VRT organizes Flikkendag, a family event where the public can meet the show's actors. There are numerous games, demonstrations by real police and other safety organizations, and performances by singers. On April 18, 2009, a special farewell party took place in Ghent, where the actors and crew bid farewell to their fans—thousands gathered to watch the show live on stage.
