Richard Matt and David Sweat are two inmates sentenced for murder who are held in the same prison. Richard devises a grand plan to escape from prison. However, it is impossible for him to execute this plan alone. He and David, who will escape with him, work out every detail of the plan together. The one who ensures the flawless execution of the plan and enables their escape is the prison tailor, Tilly Mitchell. A nationwide manhunt begins to capture the two fugitives, Richard and David.
