Diverting from an old tanker route, a vessel heads straight for the Øresund Bridge; this bridge is the famous crime scene that first brings detectives Saga Norén (Sofia Helin) and Martin Rohde (Kim Bodnia) together. The Malmö Coast Guard team urgently tries to communicate with the tanker, but they receive no response; their calls echo and fade away on the ship's bridge. When they finally board the ship, they realize the crew is missing, but they find three Swedish and two Danish youths chained in the lower deck. Saga Norén from the Malmö Police Department immediately takes on the case, but since there are Danish victims involved, she contacts her former partner Martin Rohde, and the duo sets out to investigate this mysterious and complex case.
