Bert's Family Feud was the third Australian version of the game show Family Feud. The series was produced by Grundy Television in collaboration with FremantleMedia. It aired on the Nine Network and was hosted by Bert Newton. The show aimed to feature celebrities and their families as contestants. A key motivation for launching the show was that the Nine Network had the highest-rated Australian television news service for many years, but had seen its audience shift to the Seven Network's Seven News and Today Tonight. This was not only due to Seven's rising ratings for its news programming but also because of their highly successful game show Deal or No Deal, which aired in the 5:30 PM timeslot leading into the news. As the program's February 2006 launch approached, there was speculation that the network might delay the show until mid-year and instead air reruns of Friends in the 5:30 PM slot. Network executives hoped that Friends reruns would reignite interest in the timeslot and allow Bert's Family Feud to debut to a solid audience. It premiered on February 13, 2006, but was canceled in 2007 due to low ratings. The final episode was filmed on May 23, 2007, in the GTV studios in Melbourne and aired on June 1, 2007. A total of 274 episodes were recorded, with the Castricum family being the last contestants, winning a total of $85,000. After the show's end, 'the best-of' episodes continued to air on Mondays to meet the show's commercial obligations.
