Most street children do not live to see twenty. Those who do are not necessarily living well. Drugs, violence, sexual abuse, hunger... The fate of street children is either prison or the grave. Five of these children manage to resist this fate. Calling themselves the "Rootless Ones"; the oldest is 13, the youngest is 6, one is a girl, and one is autistic. Their story begins when they find a forty-day-old baby in a dump, leading to their transformation from the "Rootless Ones" to the "Firebirds"; it will explore the children's stories of resisting fate despite hardships and suffering.
