Zendaya Skips the 2026 Met Gala Due to a Busy Year
The Hollywood Reporter
Zendaya will not be attending this year's Met Gala, the most prestigious event in the fashion world. According to a statement from her producer to Elle magazine, the famous actress decided to step back after a series of promotional tours for her recent projects (The Drama and the third season of Euphoria). It has been reported that the Emmy-winning actress has had a packed year and wants to take the necessary time to rest.
Zendaya's decision was announced to the public just days before the upcoming event. Last month, A24's The Drama (starring Robert Pattinson) premiered on April 3, while the long-awaited third season of Euphoria aired on HBO on April 12. The completion of the actress's upcoming projects is still a bit further away: Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey will be released on July 17, Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 31, and the third Dune film on December 18.
Having first attended the Met Gala in 2015, Zendaya has participated in this event a total of seven times and served as co-chair in 2024. Last year, she was seen at the event wearing an all-white outfit designed by Louis Vuitton. The Hollywood Reporter noted that while they attempted to reach Zendaya and representatives from the Costume Institute, they had not received a response by the time of publication.
Zendaya's absence also eliminates the possibility of seeing a Met Gala appearance with her close friend Tom Holland during the Spider-Man: Brand New Day promotion. Holland has never attended this event before. Although the couple has not officially confirmed whether they are married, Zendaya's longtime stylist Law Roach stated at the Actor Awards in March that the two are indeed married.
This year's Met Gala will see Anna Wintour, Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, and Venus Williams serving as co-chairs. Confirmed guests include Sabrina Carpenter, Teyana Taylor, Zoë Kravitz, Chase Sui Wonders, and Jeff Bezos. The theme of this year's exhibition is "Costume Art," highlighting the intersection of fashion and fine arts.
