According to Prime Video's announcement, Outlander star Sophie Skelton, Game of Thrones actors Indira Varma and Aidan Gillen, and Olivia Williams, known for productions like The Crown and Dune: Prophecy, have joined the new season as main cast members.

Hero Fiennes Tiffin, who plays Sherlock Holmes, and Dónal Finn, who portrays young James Moriarty, will also return for the second season. However, it has not been revealed which characters the new actors will portray or what side of the story they will be on.

Two Actors from Game of Thrones to Meet in the Same Mystery

Among the new actors, Indira Varma and Aidan Gillen stand out.

Varma played Oberyn Martell's life partner Ellaria Sand in Game of Thrones; Gillen portrayed Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish, one of Westeros's greatest schemers. This time, the two actors will be part of a different intrigue story set in Victorian England.

According to data released by Amazon, the series reached 45 million viewers worldwide within the first 28 days of its release and ranked among Prime Video's top 10 most-watched original seasons. The eight episodes of the first season were released simultaneously on March 4, 2026, and the second season renewal was announced about six weeks later.

This performance explains why Prime Video not only retained the existing cast for the second season but also added four actors known from other major productions to the main cast.

Indira Varma and Aidan Gillen represent large-scale intrigue series; Sophie Skelton represents period drama; and Olivia Williams has a career background surrounding characters involved in family, power, and political conflicts. The new season could bring these four actors' established screen identities into the young Sherlock and Moriarty's story.
