Netflix's new action series Man on Fire, directed by Kyle Killen, is a reimagining of A.J. Quinnell's classic novel. Starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, the series offers a binge-worthy experience for viewers seeking excitement. With impressive writing, thrilling scenes, and surprising twists, it becomes an ideal choice for action enthusiasts awaiting the new season of Reacher.

The series follows the character of John Creasy, a special forces mercenary. After a botched operation in Mexico City, Creasy, played by Abdul-Mateen II, loses his entire team. Struggling with PTSD after the operation, Creasy faces insomnia, alcohol issues, and even severe suicidal thoughts. He attempts to start anew in Brazil at the invitation of his former colleague Paul Rayburn (Bobby Cannavale). However, this period of rest doesn't last long. A bomb attack targeting a skyscraper in Brazil occurs, and Creasy learns that Rayburn's daughter Poe (Billie Boullet) is the sole witness at the scene.

The action in Man on Fire starts slowly, but this is a deliberate choice to deeply explore the character's story. Creasy is introduced as a wounded man; he suffers mentally as much as he does from his physical injuries. This seven-episode adaptation takes the time to detail the development of the relationship between Creasy and Poe. Aging the character of Poe from a child to a young woman allows her to play an active role in the story rather than being a passive figure. In fact, one of the biggest twists in the series relates to Poe's recollection of critical information.

The supporting cast is also of high quality. Billie Boullet successfully showcases various aspects of Poe, while Jefferson Batista's performance as Livro stands out as one of the series' surprising successes. Alice Braga manages to be the voice of reason and logic in every scene as Valeria Melo, while Scoot McNairy's CIA agent Tappan, although initially appearing stereotypical, becomes increasingly complex.

The true success of the series lies in Abdul-Mateen II's charisma. Although Creasy's abilities are only glimpsed in the early episodes, as the bombing takes on a personal dimension, Abdul-Mateen II's prominence in the action scenes increases. The on-screen chemistry between Abdul-Mateen II and Cannavale is also quite impressive. Man on Fire presents a solid production designed to appeal to fans of action series like Reacher, making it a worthy watch.
