Apple TV's best sitcom, Trying, is back with its 5th season after a two-year hiatus. The series quickly addresses the cliffhanger left at the point where Nikki and Jason's lives start to look a bit more settled and perfect. Esther Smith and Rafe Spall return to complicate their characters' warm and stable marriage. The biological mother of Princess (Scarlett Rayner) and Tyler (Cooper Turner), Kat (Charlotte Riley), appears and completely upends the family's dynamics.
The addition of a new coworker (Colin Morgan) in Nikki's life further complicates things. This situation raises questions for viewers about whether this happy couple, beloved in the Trying series that began in 2020, will endure a serious test in their marriage. Six years later, the show begins to pose unsettling questions about how much the lives of those who find marriage, parenting, and happiness are truly tested.
Continuing from where season 4 left off, the series starts with Kat appearing at Nikki and Jason's doorstep. The couple has to deal with an "extra" parent in their daily lives, which heightens Nikki's anxieties. The new dynamic creates tension between Nikki and Princess, while Tyler is uncertain about how to approach the situation. As the couple tries to support their children's wishes, they also seek to understand Kat's true place in their lives.
Life continues to move forward for everyone. After being encouraged by Penny (Imelda Staunton) to become a social worker, Jason returns to school, while Nikki starts a new job in the travel industry. Both experience a quirky, sweet, and deeply funny first day unique to Trying. Meanwhile, as Princess and Tyler step into adolescence, they are trying to cope with their own anxieties. The season also continues with Nikki's sister Karen (Siân Brooke)...
