Adeyemi explained on social media why she hasn't done any promotions for the film, which is set to be released on January 15, 2027. The author serves as an executive producer for the adaptation of her highly acclaimed novel published in 2018 and co-wrote the screenplay with Gina Prince-Bythewood. The film features well-known names such as Thuso Mbedu, Tosin Cole, Amandla Stenberg, Damson Idris, Cynthia Erivo, Lashana Lynch, Regina King, Idris Elba, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Viola Davis.
In a video she shared on TikTok, Adeyemi said, "I want to explain why I haven't shared anything about the adaptation of my work. There is a reason for that," trying to quell her fans' curiosity. In the video, she also shared a screenshot of a message she sent to Stenberg, stating, "Do not use my name in an interview or video anymore. Don't message me. Don't call me." This situation raised questions about Adeyemi's relationship with Stenberg, who has appeared in productions like "The Hunger Games" and "The Hate U Give."
The author made it clear to her fans by saying, "I haven't watched the film and I won't watch it." Adeyemi expressed her feelings by stating, "It was painful to have to hide this situation from you all." She also added, "What matters to me is us. Beyond money or fame, I will always care about us."
In the novel "Children of Blood and Bone," Adeyemi tells the story of a young woman fighting to reclaim the magic that was forcibly taken from her people. This tale is set in a fantasy kingdom in Africa, where the young woman, along with her brother, forms an alliance with the kingdom's princess and prince to fight against the king's ruthless rule.
