The Return of the New Razor Crest in The Mandalorian

One of the biggest surprises in The Mandalorian & Grogu is the return of a new Razor Crest for Din Djarin, played by Pedro Pascal. After Djarin's original ship was destroyed by Moff Gideon in the second season of The Mandalorian, Djarin and his adopted son Grogu primarily used a special N-1 Naboo Starfighter. However, there are quite logical reasons for bringing back a new Razor Crest.

It made sense to transition to a smaller starship after the original Razor Crest's destruction. While Djarin was customizing the N-1 on Tatooine, Grogu was training with Luke Skywalker at the time. Over time, Djarin began to shift away from bounty hunting, focusing on more personal missions like redeeming himself in the eyes of his clan and saving the homelands of other Mandalorians. However, now Djarin and Grogu are hunting Imperial remnants and warlords for the New Republic, which means the N-1 may not be practical for capturing some of them alive.

The Mandalorian & Grogu addresses this issue satisfactorily. Djarin receives his new ship from the New Republic in the first part of the film. After taking down the Imperial warlord Commander Barro in the opening scene, Din meets with Colonel Ward, played by Sigourney Weaver. Ward offers Djarin a new Razor Crest as both payment and an advance for his next mission.

This new Razor Crest is quite different from Djarin's original ship in the Disney+ series; this version looks very clean and new, despite being from the Imperial era. Ward explains that the New Republic rescued this Razor Crest model from the private collection of an Imperial commander who hoarded many vintage ships. This provides a solid explanation for the return of the Razor Crest. Djarin accepts a new mission involving the rescue of Jabba the Hutt's son, Rotta, and collaborates with the Hutt Syndicate to gather information about the mysterious Imperial Commander Coin.
