The Future of The Boys and Eric Kripke's Role Revealed
Screen Rant
The Boys, Prime Video's series that takes a satirical look at superheroes, has officially concluded with its fifth season. Featuring names like Antony Starr, Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, and Jensen Ackles, the show broke numerous records during its run. However, the controversial finale episode set a disheartening record on Rotten Tomatoes, ending with the lowest audience score for the franchise at 52%.
Longtime fans were particularly disappointed with the final season and the last episode of The Boys. Fans criticized showrunner Eric Kripke for not delivering on the promises made. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Kripke shared insights about the divisive finale and future plans for spin-off projects like Vought Rising and The Boys: Mexico. He stated that while he will be involved in these projects, he will not be part of the day-to-day operations.
Kripke said, "I’m excited to grow in other universes. However, I will continue to oversee projects coming out of the VCU [Vought Cinematic Universe]." He emphasized that Vought Rising is Paul Grellong's passion project, and each project should be unique and different. Noting that Gen V is completely distinct from The Boys, Kripke mentioned that each production contains different thematic concerns and character types.
The fact that Kripke will not serve as showrunner for the spin-off projects may be good news for some fans disappointed by The Boys' finale. However, he will continue to provide consultancy as part of the franchise. Grellong, who will lead Vought Rising, is a seasoned professional who has previously worked on projects like Scorpion and Hawaii Five-0. Kripke also addressed fans' concerns regarding the unresolved plot points in the finale and emphasized the importance of the characters' stories.
