Response from The Boys Showrunner to the Final Season's Trump Parallel
Screen Rant
Prime Video's The Boys is currently airing its final season, and fans are eagerly moving towards the last episodes of the series. This dark and satirical show has become a massive phenomenon worldwide, even surpassing Marvel series on streaming platforms. The series features well-known actors such as Antony Starr, Jack Quaid, Karl Urban, Erin Moriarty, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Karen Fukuhara, and Jensen Ackles on screen.
As a surprising twist, the fifth season of The Boys includes striking scenes that parallel current news. Among these is a gold-plated statue of Donald Trump, but in the show, this statue is placed in the place of Homelander (Starr). Homelander has been compared to Trump since the beginning of the series. Showrunner Eric Kripke reacted to this striking similarity on Instagram, saying, "Take it seriously, what are we going to do?"
Laz Alonso, who plays Mother's Milk in the series, commented on Kripke's post, stating, "Someone must have leaked the script." The striking parallels between The Boys and world news are not new. In the fifth and final season, Homelander is shown moving Starlight's (Moriarty) supporters to his camp, and these scenes are likened to the detention centers Trump used for immigrants in the U.S.
Another interesting parallel is Homelander wanting to be God after having a vision in the episode titled "Every One of You Sons of Bitches," believing himself to be the one and only God. This event occurred after Trump shared an AI-generated image of himself as Jesus Christ on Truth Social. Of course, the show was written and filmed long before Trump's post.
In an interview with Polygon, Kripke reacted to these disturbing similarities, saying: "I'm very tired and worn out from the world reflecting our satirical content before we even put it out there. I appreciated it from a marketing standpoint, but please give us a chance to present absurd satire and then prove that it's actually more realistic than we thought. Trump posted an image of himself as God 48 hours before the episode where Homelander decides to be God aired. When talking about marketing, I had said that Homelander being God seemed very extreme, and we needed to be very careful about presenting this idea to the public because people would say it went too far. This is where we meet. It's really hard for this world to contradict satire."
As the final episodes of The Boys' last season continue to be released, fans are eagerly waiting to see how their beloved anti-heroes will survive against many more of Homelander's adventures.
