Charles Dance in Talks to Join The Batman: Part II as Harvey Dent's Father

The Batman: Part II is preparing to add a new star to its cast. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Charles Dance is in talks to play Harvey Dent's father in the upcoming sequel to the 2022 film Batman.

Robert Pattinson returns to the film as the Dark Knight; Sebastian Stan will portray Harvey Dent, and Scarlett Johansson will play Dent's wife. Matt Reeves will continue to direct the film and co-wrote the script with Mattson Tomlin. Production is set to begin next month.

Charles Dance has appeared as Tywin Lannister in four seasons of Game of Thrones. He has also starred in productions such as Alien 3, The Imitation Game, Gosford Park, The First Omen, and The Day of the Jackal; last year, he played Dr. Frankenstein's father in Guillermo del Toro's Oscar-nominated film Frankenstein.

The original The Batman reached a worldwide box office gross of $772 million. In the film, Colin Farrell portrayed the Penguin character, who later received his own spin-off series on Max. The Penguin will also return in the sequel. The cast additionally includes Zoë Kravitz (Catwoman), Jeffrey Wright (Jim Gordon), Paul Dano (Riddler), Andy Serkis (Alfred), and Barry Keoghan (a prisoner in Arkham Asylum).

The sequel was first announced by Warner Bros. at CinemaCon in April 2022. However, in early 2023, DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran stated that the film would be released in October 2025. A year later, the film was postponed to October 2, 2026. It is currently expected to be released on October 1, 2027.
