Tennessee Williams' award-winning play "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" will have a new stage adaptation coming to Broadway in spring 2027. Tony Award-winning director Sam Gold, known for his success with "Fun Home" and "Macbeth," will helm the project. While the cast and exact dates have yet to be announced, the production is set to hit the Broadway stage in spring 2027.

This news was announced following Broadway production company Seaview's acquisition of the management rights to Tennessee Williams' estate. International Literary Properties took on this responsibility after a strategic partnership with The University of the South in 2025. The last Broadway revival was staged in 2013, starring Scarlett Johansson and Benjamin Walker.

Premiering in 1955 and winning the Pulitzer Prize, the play tells the story of a wealthy Southern family competing for the inheritance of their dying patriarch. Sam Gold previously directed Tennessee Williams' "The Glass Menagerie" on Broadway in 2017, and this will be his third collaboration with Seaview. Previous partnerships include "An Enemy of the People," starring Jeremy Strong, and "Romeo + Juliet," featuring Rachel Zegler and Kit Connor.

In a statement, Gold emphasized the importance of the play, saying: "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof is a masterpiece at the highest level of what theater can achieve. Created at the peak of Tennessee Williams' poetic power, it features the two greatest roles for actors. There is nothing more exciting than bringing this masterpiece back to New York, presenting striking and incredible themes just as it did 70 years ago."

Seaview's founding partner and CEO Greg Nobile also highlighted the significance of the partnership: "Working with Sam Gold for four years has been a wonderful experience. Cat on a Hot Tin Roof will be our fifth production together, and I am confident that Sam's vision for bringing Tennessee Williams' extraordinary and timeless characters to the stage will captivate audiences once again next season."
