The animated series Stranger Things: Tales from '85, which brings a fresh perspective to the Stranger Things universe, has officially launched on Netflix. Created by the Duffer Brothers and released a few months after the original series concluded, this first spin-off consists of 10 episodes that connect with viewers. The original Stranger Things series has been Netflix's flagship for nearly a decade and has shaped the careers of young stars like Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, and Sadie Sink.
Stranger Things: Tales from '85 takes place between the 2nd and 3rd seasons of the original series. While the animated series brings back many beloved characters, we won't see famous actors like David Harbour and Joe Keery voicing them. Instead, voice actors such as Jeremy Jordan will portray these characters, and a new character named Nikki, voiced by Odessa A'zion, will join the group to solve the mystery.
The animation style of the series captivates viewers with its vibrant colors, charm, and heart. In the episodes of Tales from '85, elements that were previously used in the original series merely to create atmosphere, like the sports of the Upside Down, now serve as central mysteries. Additionally, a new terrifying creature and snow-covered Hawkins bring a fresh air to the series.
Despite concerns about transitioning to an animated style after the success of the original Stranger Things, this choice is practically a very sensible decision. Given that the actors are considered too old for this specific story, it's clear that a live-action format wouldn't work. Recasting actors as voice talent is much more effective compared to a method that could fail in live-action.
We must not forget that the original Stranger Things achieved global success due to its unique story, compelling characters, shocking action scenes, and 1980s nostalgia. Since Stranger Things: Tales from '85 encompasses all these elements, the new Netflix release is expected to become a worldwide success in no time. This first step by the Duffer Brothers to expand the franchise has been a pleasant surprise for fans following the end of the original series.
