Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 4 Review - Adventure-Filled New Episodes

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds returns with its fourth season, which has a more episodic and charming chaos than previous seasons. The earlier seasons had a less serialized structure compared to today’s fluid TV shows; however, this season strengthens its episodic nature with the episodes presented in six reviews. The story progresses more freely without the need for a returning villain.

The placement of the season in the Star Trek timeline is considered the safest route the series can take, as it is very close to James T. Kirk's (Paul Wesley) takeover of the Starship Enterprise. Since Strange New Worlds will have a shorter duration in its fifth season, it aims to present “endings” while considering the developments and significance of characters who do not join Kirk's Enterprise, especially Anson Mount's Captain Christopher Pike, Rebecca Romijn's Una Chin-Riley, and others.

In the fourth season, a fun and innovative mix of genres and storytelling styles emerges. Four of the first six episodes are not centered around the Enterprise, providing the crew with opportunities to showcase their skills in new, exciting environments. For example, in the episode titled "Valles Marineris," Una, Ortegas, and La'an embark on a mission in a volcanic setting. Each episode fully embraces its new genre, offering viewers different experiences.

In each episode of the series, the relationships and dynamics between the characters form the binding elements of the season. Particularly in the sixth episode, despite taking place on the Enterprise, it beautifully showcases each character's strengths and their value within the team. This feels like a celebration of Pike's captaincy. However, due to predetermined character fates, some dangers do not create the expected impact on the audience. Still, the heartfelt and charismatic cast of Strange New Worlds manages to capture the viewers' interest.
