Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is preparing to step into a new era with its fourth season. The production team of the Paramount+ series announced on Saturday at the CCXP Mexico stage that the global premiere of the fourth season finale will be on July 23. The 10-episode season will continue airing every Thursday until September 24. The series last bid farewell to viewers with the third season finale that aired in September.
Rebecca Romijn, Ethan Peck, Celia Rose Gooding, and Paul Wesley showcased the teaser trailer for the new season while revealing the return date to a packed hall at the annual event in Mexico City. Anson Mount leads the series as Captain Christopher Pike, while Jess Bush, Christina Chong, Melissa Navia, Babs Olusanmokun, Martin Quinn, and Carol Kane complete the cast.
Paul Wesley explained the enduring appeal of the Star Trek franchise and the optimism that characterizes this universe, saying, "Escape is a way. It means we can believe in that kind of future." Wesley's involvement was met with great excitement, especially from viewers who know him from Vampire Diaries. The actor humorously remarked, "I need to come to Mexico City more often" in a statement showcasing his comedic talent.
In the first announced trailer, La'An Noonien-Singh (Chong) warns Nyota Uhura (Gooding), "Any of these missions could be our last," while James T. Kirk (Wesley) concludes the trailer with, "Let’s boldly go forward." Wesley humorously commented from the stage, "I was very honored that they released this on my birthday. Of course, this was done on purpose."
Romijn stated, "We are very proud of this show and truly proud of the fourth season — and the fifth season as well. We believe this is our best season yet." She also added the detail about the fourth season, saying, "There are dinosaurs!"
Wesley shared this teaser about season four: "We are exploring Kirk's past and the demons that haunt him." The actor also praised William Shatner for celebrating and endorsing Wesley's portrayal of the same character on social media. "The exchange was very nice and a beautiful gesture. William Shatner didn’t have to do this. I thought it was very generous and extremely thoughtful."
Gooding teased the evolution of the role of Nyota Uhura, originally portrayed by actress Nichelle Nichols in the 1960s. She spoke of her character, saying, "She stands up for herself. I think we are getting closer to Nichelle Nichols' Uhura."
