The Star Trek universe is filled with the concept of humanity setting aside its small differences to explore the stars. Sixty years later, this idea has become a foundation that brings forth the best stories in the science fiction realm. Starfleet encounters various alien races, hosting different cultures like the warrior Klingons, the logic-seeking Vulcans, and the alluring Orions. Now, a new comic book collection is on the way that will dive deep into these cultures.

IDW Publishing will release a comic book compilation titled Star Trek: Aliens–IDW Classic Collections next week. This pocket-sized collection consists of the Star Trek: Alien Spotlight mini-series published in 2022 and standalone stories from Star Trek: Aliens. As their names suggest, both series highlight various aliens within and outside the United Federation of Planets, emphasizing the true scope of the Star Trek universe. For long-time Star Trek fans or newcomers to this universe, these comics are definitely worth checking out.

Star Trek: Alien Spotlight and Star Trek: Aliens stand out by deeply exploring the traditions of different alien cultures. The reasons behind the Klingons' pursuit of honor in battle, the motivations of Vulcans to prioritize logic above all, and questions about the thoughts of Tribbles may surprise fans. The answers to these questions allow for a deeper exploration of these species in ways that were only superficially addressed in previous Star Trek series. Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry has always stated that he created the series to convey the message that humanity must accept its differences.

Star Trek: Alien Spotlight and Star Trek: Aliens continue to honor Roddenberry's words by exploring different aliens. While Spock is caught between his Vulcan and human heritage, Worf has managed to honor his culture as one of the first Klingons to join Starfleet and bring peace to the stars. Jadzia Dax struggled to find her identity both as a Starfleet officer and in a symbiotic bond with a Trill. These characters illustrate how Star Trek made the choice to explore our differences, and it is quite meaningful for the comics to embark on a similar journey.
