Spider-Man: Brand New Day Surpasses 1 Billion Dollars in 6 Days

The record-breaking box office journey of Spider-Man: Brand New Day reached a new level before even completing its first week.

The film from Sony and Marvel earned $1.052 billion after a six-day global release. Approximately $407 million came from North America, while $645.8 million came from international markets.

This result made Brand New Day the second fastest film in history to reach $1 billion. The only film to achieve it faster was Avengers: Endgame, which collected around $1.2 billion worldwide during its opening weekend in 2019.

It had already broken another Endgame record over the weekend

The news of Brand New Day reaching $1 billion did not come alone.

The film broke the all-time biggest domestic opening record, held by Avengers: Endgame since 2019, by earning approximately $360 million in its opening weekend. Endgame's opening at that time was about $357 million.

The global opening was approximately $927 million. Although it fell short of Endgame's $1.22 billion opening, it became the second largest global opening in cinema history.

Thus, Brand New Day not only broke one of Endgame's records within the same week but also secured another record right behind it.

It became the fastest film to reach $400 million in North America

The film's momentum during the weekdays did not drop sharply after the opening weekend.

Brand New Day reached $407 million in North America over a four-day period, making it the fastest film to cross the $400 million mark in the region. The approximately $47 million it earned on Monday was recorded as the highest Monday box office of all time, surpassing Black Panther's previous record of about $40 million.

This figure is significant; because in films with massive openings, the main question is often how quickly the audience will decline after the first weekend. The first weekday figures for Brand New Day indicate that demand is not entirely confined to the opening weekend, at least in the initial phase.

It approached No Way Home's total in just six days

Tom Holland's previous solo film, Spider-Man: No Way Home, earned $1.921 billion worldwide with its initial release and subsequent re-releases in 2021.

Brand New Day reached $1.05 billion before even completing its first week.

Therefore, the film has already accumulated more than half of No Way Home's total box office over the years in just six days of release.

This does not necessarily mean that Brand New Day will surpass its predecessor. The size of the opening and the film's endurance over the weeks are different metrics; the drop rates in the second and third weekends will determine the film's ultimate outcome.

So is $2 billion next?

The current pace of Brand New Day makes the possibility of reaching $2 billion a real topic of discussion. However, it would not be accurate to present this as a definite target to be reached already.

The film is still in the very early stages of its release. To surpass the current $1.05 billion, it needs to add approximately another billion dollars.

For comparison, No Way Home remained at $1.92 billion worldwide. Therefore, if Brand New Day surpasses $2 billion, it will also mean it is the highest-grossing Spider-Man film by a wide margin during the Tom Holland era.

For now, what can be said more firmly is this: $2 billion, which seemed far-fetched a few days ago, is now a real threshold to be monitored in box office tracking after the film's rapid pace to reach $1 billion.

Spider-Man hasn't even completed its first week

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Spider-Man: Brand New Day premiered in the US on July 31. This is Tom Holland's fourth solo film as Peter Parker, featuring Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo in the cast.

The film's next major test will be the second weekend. If the drop after the opening remains limited, Brand New Day's goal will not only be to become the highest-grossing film of the year; it will also aim to challenge No Way Home's $1.92 billion level and then the $2 billion mark.

But as of today, the existing record is already significant enough: Spider-Man reached $1 billion in less than a week.
