Spider-Man 5 Partially Confirmed: “We Always Have Plans”
After the box office records of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, all eyes are already on Tom Holland’s return as Peter Parker. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige also gave one of the clearest signs yet that the series is far from over in a new interview with Variety.
When asked directly if there are plans for another Spider-Man film with Holland, Feige’s answer was brief:
We always have plans.
Feige went on to say that Holland and Zendaya would take a break after their intense world tour. Marvel or Sony have not yet officially announced a new film titled Spider-Man 5; however, Feige’s subsequent comments make it clear that the post-Brand New Day future has already been considered.
Feige Now Says “New Spider-Man Films”
The more striking part of the interview came when the future of the MCU was discussed.
Feige mentioned that those who watch Brand New Day will see the story in the film connected to “more Spider-Man films” and the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The plural expression he used here is significant: the Marvel head is not just talking about an uncertain “future,” but about new Spider-Man films.
This still doesn’t mean that Sony and Marvel have set a date or approved production for the fifth Tom Holland film. However, it is now clearer that Brand New Day is designed not as an independent sequel but as the beginning of a new era for Spider-Man.
Sadie Sink’s Character Will Play a Key Role in the MCU's Future
Another important name in Feige’s statements is Sadie Sink.
Marvel kept Sink’s role in Brand New Day particularly secret until the film's release. Feige explained that this was a deliberate choice, wanting the audience to discover the character within the film during the opening weekend.
More importantly, he described the character played by Sink as someone of “great significance” in the Marvel universe and stated that she will play an important role in the future of the MCU.
This statement also indicates that Sink is not just a one-off actor brought in for Brand New Day. Marvel has already charted a longer-term path for the character.
Brand New Day Opens the Door to Another Marvel Series
Feige took it a step further here.
According to Marvel's head, the story initiated by Brand New Day will connect to “another well-known” Marvel series created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby beyond the Spider-Man films. However, he did not specify which series he was referring to, as the film has just premiered.
This description naturally brings to mind Marvel's major brands from the Lee–Kirby era, especially X-Men. Considering the character connections in Brand New Day, the X-Men possibility is particularly strong; however, since Feige did not explicitly mention the franchise's name in the interview, it should not be treated as an official announcement.
The definitive information here is even more intriguing: Spider-Man's new story will not remain confined within the boundaries of its own film series.
Brand New Day Could Be the Start of a New Trilogy
Marvel and Sony have not yet officially used the term “new trilogy.” However, recent statements have increasingly converged on the same point.
The Brand New Day team had previously described the film as a “beginning” for Peter Parker. Tom Holland also mentioned that there is a plan for how to hand over the character to another actor when the time comes, but he did not make a statement suggesting he would be leaving Spider-Man immediately.
Now, Feige’s direct use of the phrase “more Spider-Man films” strengthens this picture.
There is still no director, screenwriter, or release date for Spider-Man 5. However, the question that needs to be asked after Brand New Day is now “Will Tom Holland be Spider-Man again?” rather than “Where will Marvel connect this new Spider-Man era?”.
Moreover, judging by the clue Feige provided, the answer seems to lie not only within Peter Parker's world.
