Seth Rogen: "If You Don't Want to Write Scripts with AI, You Shouldn't Be a Writer"
The Hollywood Reporter
Seth Rogen expressed his opposition to the idea of using artificial intelligence in scriptwriting. In an interview with Brut at the Cannes Film Festival, he stated that those considering using this technology should not be writers. Rogen said, "If you have the instinct to use AI, and you're not going through the process, you shouldn't be a writer."
Rogen believes that content generated by artificial intelligence is of poor quality and creates a negative impression about the future of Hollywood. He remarked, "When I see videos on Instagram saying 'Hollywood is over,' the things that follow are the dumbest things I've ever seen in my life." This situation serves as an example that underscores the importance of the writing process for him.
Additionally, Rogen stated that he does not want to look for shortcuts in the process of creating a new script and enjoys the writing process. He said, "If you don't want to go through this process, you should do something else. The idea of a tool that would make me write less is not appealing to me." These statements highlight the essence of the writing profession and the value of the creative process.
As artificial intelligence begins to impact the entertainment industry, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced new rules and regulations to limit the effects of AI on Oscar nominations. Rogen was at Cannes to support Leah Nelson's animated film titled "Tangles." The film features famous voice actors such as Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Abbi Jacobson, and Bryan Cranston.
