Seth MacFarlane clarified his previous statements regarding the continuation of Ted. There was uncertainty about whether the 3rd season of the series, which airs on Peacock and is set before the 2012 film, would be made, but MacFarlane now says that if Peacock provides funding, both the 3rd season and a special film for the platform could be produced. In a prior interview with ScreenRant, MacFarlane noted that there is "currently no direct plan," but he changed his tune at the Ted panel for Deadline, stating that the entire team is willing to pursue these projects.

In his statement, MacFarlane expressed that the production decision is entirely up to Peacock and that both options are on the table. Although the 2nd season finale of Ted did not indicate a definitive end, there is an alternative for a film exclusive to the streaming platform. Given that the 2nd season consists of 8 episodes, each 30 minutes long, totaling about 4 hours, a film could potentially ease Peacock's budget constraints by being shorter.

Both seasons of the Ted series have received acclaim from critics and audiences alike. The show has a score of 87% on the Tomatometer and 90% on the Popcornmeter on Rotten Tomatoes, which is higher than the films in the franchise. The 74% critic score for the 1st season is significantly lower compared to the 100% score of the 2nd season; however, both seasons have maintained a viewer score of 90%. These ratings are quite high compared to Ted 2.

In addition to positive reviews, Ted's viewership on Peacock is also at impressive levels. According to Nielsen data, since the 8 episodes of the 2nd season premiered on March 5, it has recorded 1.2 billion minutes of viewing. The series has also been the most-watched original series among male viewers aged 18-34 on Peacock since 2022. Such numbers indicate the potential for even higher viewership with the production of Ted's 3rd season or a new film.

Although not yet confirmed, the franchise will continue with the 3rd season or film projects that follow the story of Ted and young John Bennett, along with Ted: The Animated Series, which will premiere on Peacock in the later months of 2024. The series serves as a continuation of Ted 2 and features Mark Wahlberg reprising his role as adult John. Amanda Seyfried and Jessica Barth will also reprise their roles as Sam Jackson and Tami-Lynn, respectively, while Liz Richman and Kyle Mooney will voice new characters.

In addition to the original voices of Ted and John from the series, the cast includes Alanna Ubach as John's mother Susan, Scott Grimes as his father Matty, Giorgia Whigham and Marissa Shankar as his cousin Blaire and her friend Sarah, respectively. Ara Hollyday plays Andrew, John and Ted's classmate. Patrick Stewart, who played Charles Xavier in the X-Men films, serves as the narrator, while Ian McKellen, who portrayed Magneto, guest narrates in the series version.
