Seoyeon Jang Accidentally "Auditioned" for Her Role in Beef Season 2
The Hollywood Reporter
In the second season of Beef, the 31-year-old British-Korean actress Seoyeon Jang shines, and she might have subconsciously auditioned for her role. Jang recounts that just a few weeks before receiving the audition invitation for the second season of Netflix's award-winning anthology series, she was scrolling through Instagram and saw a clip from the first season. "I remember thinking to myself, this is the kind of role I want to do," she said, adding with a smile in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter: "Since I got the audition, I must have drawn it indirectly."
Starting as a K-pop idol trainer and then becoming a K-drama star, Jang expresses her enjoyment of how "complex" the Netflix anthology characters can be, playing the role of Eunice, the smart assistant to Youn Yuh-jung's Oscar-winning vice president character in the production. Jang, who is featured in the second season of the anthology series directed by Lee Sung-jin, rounds out the main cast from last season alongside Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, Charles Melton, and Cailee Spaeny at a golf club in California.
Emphasizing how excited she is about the "narrow-minded" aspects of these characters, the actress states, "We all have these little, narrow-minded sides within us, and seeing these characters amplify that narrow-mindedness is very refreshing." While in Los Angeles for promotional activities related to the release of Beef on Netflix, the actress found a brief moment to chat with The Hollywood Reporter.
Despite growing up in London and speaking English, Jang has mentioned that she never imagined or thought she could work in Hollywood. Beef is the actress's second American project and represents a significant step following many productions she has been part of in Korea over the years. She is ready to explain how her transition from K-dramas to Hollywood productions happened and what she will remember most about this experience.
