A striking new psychological thriller is coming from British independent cinema. Saffron Burrows, Steven Berkoff, and Alexander Johnson will come together in a new film titled The Sacrifice. Johnson not only takes on the lead role but is also the writer of the project.

Saffron Burrows and Steven Berkoff in the cast

Alexander Johnson both wrote and stars

The Sacrifice will be a larger-scale step for Alexander Johnson in his career so far. Johnson appeared in Kristen Stewart's first feature directorial attempt The Chronology of Water, where he was also part of the co-producing team. He is also part of the cast of Olivier Assayas's The Wizard of the Kremlin.

Not connected to Tarkovsky's The Sacrifice

The film's title naturally reminds cinephiles of Andrei Tarkovsky's 1986 masterpiece The Sacrifice (Offret). However, statements regarding the new project have not established any adaptation or remake connection to Tarkovsky's film. The disclosed story also points to a completely different narrative. While Tarkovsky's film centers on a man bargaining with God in the face of the threat of nuclear war, the new The Sacrifice focuses on a modern clinical psychologist's increasingly unraveling perception of reality.
