Sabrina Carpenter Made a Grand Opening at Coachella 2026 with "Sabrinawood"
The Hollywood Reporter
Sabrina Carpenter had said, "I'll see you here as the headliner" when she performed at Coachella in 2024. She kept that promise in much less time than expected. Carpenter took the stage as the headliner on the first night of Coachella 2026, delivering a sophisticated performance reminiscent of Hollywood's golden age, featuring camera appearances from stars like Sam Elliott, Susan Sarandon, and Will Ferrell. This grand show further solidified Carpenter's position as one of the biggest artists in the music world.
Starting after 9:00 PM, Carpenter opened her set with a long video introduction featuring Sam Elliott playing a film noir scene. She stepped onto the stage, walking along a passage reminiscent of her "Road to Fame" and kicked off her performance with the song "House Tour." The following songs featured dancers in dog and Dalmatian costumes, showcasing the importance of visuals. Carpenter had stated in an interview published with Marc Jacobs that this show would be "the most ambitious show I've ever done," and this was clearly evident on stage.
The stage design was entirely focused on the Hollywood theme. The "Sabrinawood" sign that appeared during the song "When Did You Get Hot," along with artificial Hollywood Hills decor and changing scenes, transported the audience from a production studio to a dive bar, then to a massive dance studio and a Broadway-style cityscape. After a lengthy speech by Susan Sarandon, the scene changed completely. The dancers' costumes were equally elaborate, ranging from dogs to burlesque dancers and circus performers.
Referencing films like Chicago and Dirty Dancing, Carpenter centered the Hollywood theme throughout the night. Her set primarily featured songs from the albums Man's Best Friend and Short n' Sweet. The live debut of "We Almost Broke Up Last Night" was a special moment.
Carpenter continued with "Espresso" and "Goodbye" starting from "Juno," concluding with the song "Tears." During the performance, Carpenter sat on a throne rising from a car with a water fountain flowing beneath, receiving huge applause from the audience. Such bold and creative details had become characteristic of her artistic identity.
Throughout the performance, Carpenter humorously reminded everyone of her statement from 2024. "If I hadn't said this and was not the headliner, it would have been quite strange," she said. This sentence reflected both her confidence in her own success and the connection she established with the audience. The first night of Coachella 2026 proved how far Sabrina Carpenter has come as a pop music icon.
