Robert Pattinson Compares His Character in 'The Odyssey' to 'Twilight'
The Hollywood Reporter
Robert Pattinson is portraying the character Antinous in the film 'The Odyssey', where he mentioned being part of a new love triangle following the 'Twilight' series. In an interview with MTV U.K. at the world premiere of Christopher Nolan's epic action-fantasy film 'The Odyssey' in London, he answered the question, "How fun is it to play a character that no one supports?"
In 'The Odyssey', Pattinson plays the main antagonist Antinous, who pressures Queen Penelope (Anne Hathaway) to marry while King Odysseus (Matt Damon) is away. "I think people will support him. I keep comparing this... it's like Jacob in 'Twilight'," he referenced Taylor Lautner's character.
Pattinson humorously summarized his character's situation by saying, "The plot of 'The Odyssey' is about Penelope not being able to choose between two men, and I'm trying to help her make a decision. ... Okay, he’s dead, accept it." Although there are not many similarities between 'The Odyssey' and 'Twilight', Pattinson reminds us of Jacob's attempts to win Bella's (Kristen Stewart) heart from Edward (Pattinson).
'The Odyssey', set to be released by Universal Pictures on July 17, focuses on Odysseus's perilous journey back to Ithaca after the Trojan War and his efforts to reunite with his family. The film also features stars like Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Lupita Nyong’o.
