The neo-noir thriller Crime 101, which held the top spot on Prime Video's global viewer list for nearly two weeks, has lost its title as the platform's most-watched film. Featuring stars like Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Halle Berry, and Barry Keoghan, the film's success seems to have fallen short of expectations. Reports indicate that it has failed to recoup its $90 million budget, marking a disappointing outcome for the film industry.
Thanks to its success in theaters, Crime 101 gained significant promotional advantages for its transition to Prime Video. The film, marketed as an original production by the streaming platform in many countries, has received positive reviews with an 88% Rotten Tomatoes score. However, the platform's new success is far from receiving such support and has not been shown in any theaters.
The director of the film is Peter Farrelly, one of the members of the Farrelly Brothers. The duo directed major hits like Dumb and Dumber and There's Something About Mary, and they parted ways professionally after the release of Dumb and Dumber To in 2014. Peter Farrelly has managed to expand his creative horizons with productions like Green Book, while his brother Bobby Farrelly has only directed two films since their split. Another project Peter Farrelly is preparing for this year is the biographical drama I Play Rocky, which focuses on Sylvester Stallone's journey to becoming the lead actor in the classic Rocky from the 1970s.
