As a franchise that has been around for over 30 years, Pokémon has generally maintained the same designs since the 90s. Although Pikachu has become a bit slimmer since the Kanto era, the original designs have become so iconic that it's quite difficult for Pokémon to change these looks. However, many new and interesting designs for Pikachu have been introduced over the years.

Recently, a new design was added with the Pikachu Wedding: Wedding Kimono Pikachu (Male) plush toy. This 9-inch plush, sold for $29.99 at the Pokémon Center, is dressed in a "black montsuki kimono with two Poké Balls in front." This version offers a fun option as a wedding gift. Additionally, there is a Wedding Dress (Female) version available.

We have previously seen various Pikachu designs for holiday seasons and special occasions; designs specific to celebrations like Christmas and Halloween, as well as seasonal themes like graduation and summer, are also available. Recently, a "Chubby Pikachu" plush was officially released in honor of the franchise's 30th anniversary.

Pokémon is not shy about showcasing new designs of its mascot through its products. However, an increase in new looks for Pikachu is observed in 2026. This could be related to the celebration of Pokémon's 30th anniversary; this year has seen many collaborations and official releases, with more on the way.

The new Wedding Kimono Pikachu is quite adorable and could make a great wedding gift for a Pokémon fan in your life. For couples getting married, it could also serve as a fun decoration at the reception or (theoretically) as a cake topper. With summer being wedding season, it's an ideal time for Pokémon to release such a product.
