'One Night Only' Brings a Fresh Take to Romantic Comedy

Three years ago, for romantic comedy enthusiasts, Will Gluck achieved great success with "Anyone but You," a bold interpretation of Shakespeare's work. Thanks to the impressive chemistry between Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney, the film grossed $220 million worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing live-action adaptation of Shakespeare's works. Now, writer-director Gluck hopes to capture the same success with a crazier story themed around "The Purge." Ahead of its release in August, a new image from "One Night Only" was shared as part of Collider's Special Summer Preview series. This image highlights the romantic moments of Callum Turner and Monica Barbaro during the hottest night of the year.
In the exclusive still shared, the stars of "A Complete Unknown" and "Masters of the Air" are seen in similar vehicles. Barbaro reaches out, sharing a sweet moment with Turner. The duo portrays Allie and Owen, two strangers craving love who are searching for more. One is a hopeful romantic, while the other is a character trying to recover from a breakup. Despite their strong connection, everything keeps getting in their way. Their separate vehicles symbolize how far apart they are from each other, even though they are so close in a crowded city.
The intriguing aspect of "One Night Only" is the legal allowance for lonely individuals to meet each other only one night a year. This situation leaves Allie and Owen out during a time when everyone in the city is trying to take advantage of this opportunity. However, in the crowd, a single misstep and deviation constantly separates them and prevents them from getting closer throughout the night. Still, during their attempts to connect, they may discover that what they are truly looking for is much closer than they think.
