The Fantasia Film Festival has announced its first film selection for its 30th edition, set to take place in the summer of 2026. The festival will feature the world premiere of the AI-themed sci-fi thriller "Hot Spot," starring lead actress Noomi Rapace and directed by Agnieszka Smoczyńska. Acquired by Focus Features, the film tells the story of a private detective investigating a murder set in the near future, and it will hit theaters on August 21.
The festival, taking place in Montreal from July 16 to August 2, will also showcase other world premieres. Jenn Wexler's film "The Last Temptation of Becky," featuring Lulu Wilson, Kate Siegel, and Neil Patrick Harris, will be the third installment in the independent action-thriller series Becky. Directed by Kasper Kalle, "No Rest For the Wicked" is a queer vampire film starring Egor Venned and Pilou Asbaek. "Home Bodies," directed by Casey Walker, is a sci-fi thriller featuring twin actors Emma and Ian Ho as two children raised in isolation by an automated home.
The festival program includes many more premieres and North American debuts. Makoto Ueda's debut feature "You Are the Film," Yeom Ji-oh's horror thriller "The Eyes," and the Taiwanese production "Kung Fu" are preparing for their premieres in Montreal. Additionally, Yusuke Iwasaki's film "Anymart" centers around the story of a supermarket employee and a new worker.
While the Fantasia Festival will distribute awards as part of the Cheval Noir competition judged by its jury, it also stated that additional film announcements will be made in the coming months.
