Nicolas Cage's 'Spider-Noir' Performance Disappoints
The Hollywood Reporter
Nicolas Cage returns to the screen in the superhero role in Amazon's 'Spider-Noir' series after many years. While he was expected to star in a Superman film directed by Tim Burton, that project never materialized. However, Cage's performance in this new series is proving to be a disappointment for viewers. The series, with its first season consisting of eight episodes, leaves the door open for more adventures but fails to provide a cliffhanger that keeps the audience intrigued.
Despite being one of the most significant works in Cage's television career, the first season of the series is regarded as an inconsistent disappointment. Viewers, filled with the desire to watch a fun 100-minute movie, find that some episodes of the series are skippable, indicating that the story is not conveyed effectively enough. Particularly in the second half, Cage's more bizarre and unique performances stand out.
Oren Uziel, one of the creators of the series, drew inspiration from classic detective stories while creating 'Spider-Noir.' However, there are criticisms that this inspiration was not explored deeply enough and that the story progresses in a boring manner. Although the black-and-white cinematography by Darran Tiernan and Peter Deming is striking, it does not save the overall quality of the series. Viewers are advised to watch the series in black and white; perhaps this way, a more impactful experience can be achieved.
