Nicolas Cage revealed that he hasn't heard back from Christopher Nolan since turning down the offer to star in the 2002 film Insomnia. This eagerly anticipated project following Nolan's Memento (2000) featured renowned names like Al Pacino and Robin Williams. In an interview with the New York Times, Cage stated that Nolan never called him again after he declined the offer.

Cage said, "David O. Russell offered me a film a million years ago. It was a great film, and I said no. He is the only director who offered me another film after I said no. Most directors get emotionally hurt and don’t reach out again." Cage confirmed that Nolan had offered him Insomnia and mentioned that other directors like Paul Thomas Anderson and Woody Allen similarly did not follow up.

Insomnia achieved modest box office success, grossing $113 million worldwide and received high praise from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds a 92% critic score. This success, along with the performances of Pacino and Williams, stems from the film's impactful psychological thriller narrative.

Cage's comments came ahead of the release of Madden, directed by David O. Russell, which focuses on the rise of football commentator John Madden, set to hit theaters on November 26. Nolan is preparing to present his historical epic film The Odyssey to audiences on July 17. Cage's suggestion that Nolan's lack of response might stem from the director's hurt feelings once again highlights how complex director-actor relationships can be in the film industry.
